The Next Level of Church-School Partnership
(starting Spring of 2017)
Led by our flagship churches, we are Christians who take our roles as servants and image-bearers to heart. We care about our community, and we are committed to making an impact in the lives of kids in this 1 generation.
Our current partnership school for 2017-2018 is HISD Bastian Elementary School, which Children at Risk gave its lowest ranking (F) in 2017 and classified 98% of its students as economically disadvantaged. Bastian Elementary is only 7 blocks from the Greater St. Mathew church in Sunny Side.
Our partner churches are Kids Hope USA affiliates, and we use the proven time-tested Kids Hope one-on-one mentoring system.
Loving, caring adult church members volunteer their time to nurture the heart of an at-risk child and makes a commitment to devote an hour every week to their mentoring role. Mentors are carefully screened using a process that includes an application, an online HISD criminal history check, a personal interview and pastor approval. Mentors will be using comprehensive materials provided by the Kids Hope USA National Office, and will also attend an orientation session at the school. Ongoing supervision and support is provided to all volunteers by each partner church's program Directors.
Prayer partners participate to support each mentoring pair.
Academic tutoring: Our dedicated volunteers provide classroom tutoring in Math, Reading, and other subjects.
